I love all of the works I have read of George Orwell. The piece on "Politics and the English Language" did not disappoint. The interwoven themes of Politics and the manipulation of the English Language, really made me think. Now, whether I am talking or writing, I stop to think,"could my point be clarified by following any of the six rules Mr. Orwell stated in his essay?
I have to admit, I still find his writing slightly antiquated in style. I do feel that his content is always clear and definitely timeless. I believe, any contemporary writer should keep in mind this question: Can what I write transcend through history and still be relevant to the present era? This is a very difficult thing to do. I hope that any paper I may write, will attempt to reflect a portion of what I have learned from this master of the written word.
